Finding the humor

I have been working on this socialite dress for way too long. Thinking about it, picking it up then walking away. The other night I finally decided I would finish it and just be done!

I attached the front yoke (after two failed attempts) and went to my mirror to see my handiwork...then I saw this:

SERIOUSLY!! I tried so hard to center the pattern and this is what I came up with. My dress has eyes in the most unfortunate place. So at that moment I chopped off the top and decided to make a paper bag skirt from one of Sew Caroline's tutorials.

This pattern will not win!! I'm thinking of starting fresh with a nice chevron, something that won't look back at me in the mirror!

Working on a dress...for me!

Today I am going to get materials ready to make a dress for myself. I've never made anything this big so I am very apprehensive about it. The dress I will making is the Socialite Dress by Anna Maria Horner. The recommendation comes from Caroline of SewCaroline. She has an awesome series called "How Does It Sew?!" where she picks patterns, sews them and then gives a review of how easy/hard the pattern was to make. I just found her blog via Instagram a few weeks ago and I love pretty much everything about this awesome blogger, esp the adorable pics of her puppy Sammie!
Will do another post to share my progress and hopefully link up with her! Yay for sewing days!!

The First One

Starting a blog.

Something I thought I would never do.

I have followed a handful of bloggers over the past few years and thought how fun it would be to have my own blog. I could share my favorite recipes, DIY projects, pictures of my family and an occasional beauty product review. I had dreams it would be easy. YEAH RIGHT! I have stared at this blank blog for several days not knowing where to begin until Kate pinned this quote on pinterest. It gave me the kick in the rear I was looking for! I had to come to terms with the fact that I wouldn't start my blog and instantly have a gazillion followers, it takes time - as all good things do.

So, here's to patience and finding my voice on my little piece of the internet.
